The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Dr Tiah Kabiru Mahama blames the Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor of the Parliament’s Appointment Vetting Committee for the recent disturbing incident witnessed during vetting proceedings of nominees of President Mahama.
According to the MP, the Chairman of the committee is to be faulted due to his bad leadership during the vetting processes.
His comments follows Mr. Ahiafor’s recent media appearances to clarify issues regarding the vetting processes. In his interviews, the chairman apportioned some blame to the leader of minority in parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin for some of his conducts that led to the disgraceful incident.
But Kabiru said the chairman does not get to point fingers in this matter.
“As the leader of the committee, it is his job to ensure that when there’s no consensus, he brings everyone together, it is not for him to point fingers at others,” he said on JoyNews’ AM Show on February 4, 2025.
Moreover, Mr. Ahiafor’s inability to live up to the dinamics of the committee and take decisive steps during the process is the reason the vetting ran into chaos, says Dr. Mahama. According to the politician, the chairman has showcased some traits of unfairness, particularly to his side of the committee during the vetting proceedings.
“Nominees will come and say things about those not on the committee, but when an MP goes to ask nominees certain questions, they are told the person isn’t here, so the question can’t be put.”
“The failure of the chairman to take decisive action is what led to the disarray we saw. Leadership is key, and when it’s lacking, it has far-reaching consequences for the entire system,” he concluded.
