A day earmarked as a day for lovers, February 14, 2025, has become a bloody Valentine for a couple located in Axim in the Western Region of Ghana.
According to reports, the lover, Joseph Richard, is said to be 45 years old, has allegedly set his partner, Betty Herman’s children ablaze, following her request to break up.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Richard set the fire in an attempt to harm the children of Betty Herman, when she requested for a breakup.
He had set fire to his partner’s residence, while two children were sleeping inside. The children, unable to escape the fire, have suffered from severe burns and have been transported to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for special treatment.
The fire was set around 3:00 a.m. and caught up with the two victims who have been identified as Joseph Ben – 16 years old, and Richlove Asiedua Yeboah – 13 years old.
Richard, after the heinous incident, is said to be on the run.
Some relatives and residents have alleged that constant threats from the suspect’s mother for reasons unknown influenced him to commit the atrocious act.
The police have been alerted of the incident and are currently on the lookout to find the suspect.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Axim are yet to issue a statement regarding the unfortunate event.
