Caterers operating under government’s School Feeding Programme are aggrieved by government’s posture in the wake of calls for payment of their arrears and demands to increase the feeding amount per child.
They have described the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration as heartless and insensitive for failing to help mitigate the challenges.
Caterers recently demanded an increase in government’s feeding fee per child under the SFP from GH¢1.00 to about GH¢3.00, saying that they can no longer work with the current amount owing to the economic challenges, especially food inflations.
In response to the calls, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu proposed GH¢1.20 compared to the initial GH1.00.
This means an increment of 20 Ghana pesewas has been made.
Caterers have since been outraged by the meagre increment, saying the authorities do not care about them.
Spokesperson for the caterers, Dorothy Ofori Sarpong in Ashanti Region expressed their concerns to the media.
“Nobody in the national head office or the presidency will say that they have not heard what is going on. They are our husbands, we are their wives, sisters and daughters, and they know us. Nobody has even taken the pain to ask why we have been ranting all this while.
“They rather insult us that we are disgracing them, but what we are going through, they don’t care, that is why I’m saying they [government] are heartless, people are dying, and they don’t care. We have gone everywhere, they all have information about our case,” she said.
Madam Sarpong disclosed that in case the government fails to respond to their request, they will “go to sleep” and they will not campaign for the ruling party in the coming election as they once did which saw their victory.
