The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has made a donation of essential medical supplies to the Upper West Regional Health Directorate.
This follows an outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) in the Upper West Region. According to reports, there have been 129 suspected cases, with 16 deaths and 22 confirmed cases.
His donation is to help the directorate of the region fight and manage the cases of cerebrospinal meningitis which has started to spread in the region.
The Speaker made the donation on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The medical supplies include 12 packs of spinal needles, 2,100 quantities of normal saline, 8,400 quantities of Ceftriaxone injections, 300 boxes of Dexamethasone, 1,600 of reception injections, and 2,100 of Ringer Lactate injections.
These supplies were donated by the Speaker, to help boost the region’s capacity in the fight and treatment of meningitis cases.
In his presentation, the Speaker hoped that the items donated would help alleviate the shortage of medical supplies in treating the outbreak of the disease and would improve the provision of healthcare services and treatment by the health workers.
Currently, the Upper West Region has been battling with a surge in cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) cases.
