According to President John Dramani Mahama, he has directed the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to impose a ban on all non-essential traves by government appointees.
He mentioned that all ravels outside the country must be cleared by the Chief of Staff.
He said, “I have asked the Chief of Staff to ban all non-essential travels. Any travel must be cleared with the Chief of Staff. Such trips, if approved, must be done in modesty, no first class.”
President Mahama said this when he swore-in 17 new ministers on Friday, February 7, 2025. The newly sworn-in ministers include substantive ministers, ministers of state and regional ministers.
While charging them to be modest in their expenditure, the President emphatically stated during the occasion, that, “The hallmark of this government will be modesty. I expect the best from all of you. You must dig deep into your resources to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.”
He also mentioned that he expects Parliament to hasten the vetting of the recently nominated deputy ministers. He said, “So far, we have sworn-in a total of 42 ministers. I have nominated 13 more who are yet to be vetted. I expect Parliament to expedite the vetting of the 13 nominees. In the coming days, I will nominate four more to make up the sixty.”
The Regional Ministers that were sworn-in were; Charity Gardiner – Ahafo Regional Minister, Salifu Bi-Awuribe – Savannah Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson – Western Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Bentum – Western-North Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa – Bono Regional Minister, and Charles Lwanga Puozuing – Upper West Regional Minister.
The sector ministers who were sworn-in were; Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh as Health Minister, Sam Nartey George as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Kofi Adams as Sports Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed as Minister for Environment and Science, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Bukari Nikpe as 1transport Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu as Minister of State-in-charge of Government Communications, Rashid Pelpuo as Labour Minister, and Issifu Seidu as Minister of State-in-charge of Climate Change and Sustainability.
The swearing-in of these ministers is in line with the promise President Mahama made during his campaign for the 2024 elections, that he will use only 60 ministers to regulate governmental functions and reduce the cost of government expenditure.
