A pressure group called New Voter Forum (NVF) in the Volta Region, has urged delegates to reject candidates that are affiliated to the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming Council of State election.
The election is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, and 13 candidates from the Volta Region, have filed to be elected.
While addressing the press in Ho on Thursday, February 6 2025, the group revealed that some of the individuals who have filed for candidacy in the upcoming elections are affiliated with the New Patriotic Party, whom the group deems as people who do not have the development of the region set in their hearts.
According to them, they believe that such persons are not aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of improving and resetting the country, and such individuals are not to be allowed to become members of the Council of State.
Addressing the press, the convener of the group, Conquerer Mawudzo Korto stated, “The upcoming Council of State election goes to the heart of the Volta region’s development and it is important to remind Volta delegates not to vote for any candidate being sponsored by the NPP, a political party who doesn’t prioritize the development of the Volta region.”
The group also asserted that the New Patriotic Party was persistent in neglecting the development of the region and they urged that any individual who is affiliated to the party must be made to pay for the neglect.
Speaking on the group’s behalf, Mr. Korto stated, “Today, we have come together to shed light on the NPP’s continued ploy to keep the Volta Region underdeveloped for their selfish political gains. As you may be aware, the NPP over the years have smartly and deceitfully sponsored one of their members to the Council of State and have kept the Volta Region’s development under the carpet.”
The New Voter Forum (NVF), however, believes that the region only gets development opportunities when the NDC is in government.
They therefore urged delegates to vote for a person who can serve as a true representative for the Volta Region, on the Council.
There are 36 delegates – two from each Municipal and District Assemblies, who are expected to gather in Ho for the elections on Tuesday.
