Parliament is set to resume sitting later today following its consistent closure by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin. The sitting will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre this time.
The Speaker has had to close parliament indefinitely following a power brawl between the himself and the Majority caucus in parliament. This followed his controversial pronouncement on some vacant seats, which he declared vacant.
Following the setttling of the issue by the supreme court, who delivered a judgement in favour of the Majority caucus, the leader of the caucus, Afenyo Markin requested a reopening of parliament, as he lamented the urgency of some government businesses that needed dealing with.
But the speaker denied the request as he believed the December 7 election was of utmost importance, adding that parliamentary proceedings could only resume after the election.
Meanwhile, the general election has seen defeat of several incumbent MPs, especially of the ruling party and would in effect, vacate their seats in the country’s 9th parliament.
