The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng through a press statement, said the former minister has consistently refused to aid in an ongoing investigation in which he is considered a suspect.
Ken Ofor-Atta has reportedly fled the country in pursuit of medial care. This was communicated to the OSP through the former minister’s legal team. However the OSP has lamented the importance of cases in which his involvement is required.
The Special Prosecutor has enumerated reasons the Mr. Ofori-Atta has been declared a fugitive.
“This person is wanted by the OSP to answer charges in respect of several cases including the following; 1. contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority for the stated objective of the enhancement of revenue assurance in the down-stream petroleum sector, upstream petroleum production and minerals and resources value chain. 2. Termination of a distribution loss reduction and associated network improvement project contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology BXC.”
“3. Procurement of contractors and materials and activities and payment in respect of the National Cathedral Project. 4. Activities and payments in respect of a contract awarded by the Ministry of Health, initially commenced by the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives to service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchases and after sale service and maintainance of 307 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 305-CDI ambulances for the National Ambulance Services. And 5. Payment out of and utilization of the tax refund account of Ghana Revenue Authority.”
“Ladies and Gentlemen of the media, the fugitive’s name is Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta,” Mr. Agyebeng said in a press briefing.
The OSP has advised the former minister to returrn to the country voluntarily or it will be forced to adopt other means to compel him to return.

The former finance minister’s home in Accra was recently raided by unkown persons who were armed and in security uniform. The said persons reportedly forced their way into the house without any warrant in search of what has remain unknown. Familly of the former minister has since accused the OSP for staging the incident.
Responding to the news, the OSP clarified that it did not sanction such an operation. According to him, intelligence suggests the incident was staged to discredit his outfit.
