The Office of the Special Prosecutor has in a press release, requested the mandatory appearance of former Finance Minister Ken Yaw Ofori-Atta, on June 2, 2025.
The OSP acknowledged the lawsuit which was recently filed by Mr. Ofori-Atta, contesting the OSP’s prior declaration that he was a wanted person and a fugitive from justice.
According to the statement, which was signed by Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor and shared on Monday, March 17, 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta had formally requested the OSP to remove his name from its list of wanted persons, and gave an assurance to the OSP that he, Mr. Ofori-Atta, would make himself available for questioning on a definite date. The OSP mentioned that based on the former minister’s assurance and in good faith, it granted the Mr. Ofori-Atta’s request and removed his name from the OSP’s list of wanted persons, pending his personal attendance at the Office of the Special Prosecutor on a definite date.
The OSP further stated that “Mr. Ofori-Atta is mandatorily required to appear in person before the OSP on 2 June 2025.” It issued a caution to the former finance minister, that should he fail to attend the OSP on the scheduled date, his name will be re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons, and it will consider him a fugitive from justice. It also mentioned that following his non-appearance, the Office of the Special Prosecutor will cause the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice in his regard and also cause the initiation of extradition proceedings in any jurisdiction in which he may be found.
The Special Prosecutor assured the general public of the OSP’s unwavering commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring that the former Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Yaw Ofori-Atta answers for his role as the prime suspect in five ongoing corruption and corruption-related investigations.
In February, the Office of the Special Prosecutor had declared the former Finance Minister, wanted and a fugitive from justice, causing an uproar in the country. This was days after videos of armed men invading the former minister’s residence were circulated. The OSP, however denied sanctioning such an operation, saying it was a ploy from some people to discredit their ongoing investigations.
Last week, the former minister, filed a lawsuit against the OSP, for declaring him wanted, and against two senior police officers for participating in raiding his residence while he was out of the country, seeking, medical treatment.
