A lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, Professor Kwame Gyan says he sees the activites of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee as a channel to report corruption related activities to President John Dramani Mahama directly.
Lawyer Kwame Gyan was speaking on JoyNews’ NewsFile with Samson Lardy on Saturday, January 18, expressing his opinion on the legality of the activities of the ORAL team.
“I see ORAL as just an extension of a point where you can go and report to the president” he said.
He explained that setting up the committee is a step away from the usual whistleblowing methods of reporting corruption. According to him, if the committee’s aim was to receive and submit their reports on corruption and corrupt officials to the President, then it is a project on the right course.
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee was set up by President John Dramani Mahama in the early days of his swearing-in, to tackle issues of corruption that took place during the reign of the incumbent government under the administration of Former President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo.
The committee, however, still faces criticisms, especially from the opposition NPP. While others believe that it is a step in the right direction to make state members accountable to citizens, some also argue that it is a committee set up based on partisan interests and not in the interests of Ghanaians.
