The Minority leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency has made accusations against the Operations Recover All Loot Committee – popularly known as Team ORAL, of using drones to spy on his private residences. This is in his refu
Speaking on the JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, 5 February 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin claimed that he was informed by the policemen at his residence, as well as his associates, about the suspicious activity around his residence on multiple occasions, but he chose to ignore it.
In expressing his displeasure regarding the act, he said, “Meanwhile, I was aware of these ORAL guys have been flying drones in Winneba, over my property. I kept quiet. I managed it. They went to my beachfront property, mounted a drone, and flew it from the community center near the ‘nshorna’. My boy said it. I told them to ignore it.”
He also mentioned that the alleged drone activity did not only take place in his residence at Winneba, but his other private residences also including the Abelenkpe residence. He went further to say, “In Abelenkpe, you’ll be there in the morning, and you will see drones flying.
The policemen have seen it. They told me, I said ignore it. Sometimes, early in the morning, we see drones behind the rail lines, and I know they are spying on my house. What business do drones have at a Minority Leader’s house?”
He made these comments following Mr. Ablakwa’s disclosure of some information regarding the MP’s properties, during Mr. Ablakwa’s vetting on Friday, January 31.
According to Mr. Afenyo-Markin, he had met the minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, before the vetting, where he expressed his displeasure on the acts of the ORAL committee to him. He said, “Before his vetting, ask Ablakwa if we didn’t sit like brothers. I said, ‘Sammy, there were things you went overboard. I think if you make concessions, we’ll be fine.’
His comments seek to refute the claims that his Winneba residence is state-owned. The MP mentioned that these claims are a misrepresentation, seeking to question his wealth, with regards to his private properties.
