There was a clash between the police and supporters at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, when the barricade which the police had placed, was breached by said individuals.
This happened during the re-run of the Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region today, February 17, 2025,
One person has been arrested in relation to the chaos that had erupted.
According to reports, the arrested person is said to be a supporter of the former Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman, Yaw Obimpeh.
The arrested individual was part of the group that breached the barricades set by the Ghana Police, which was present to maintain peace and order during the election. The police had set the barricades and instructed that all supporters remain behind the barricades.
In order to prevent a recurrence of the chaos, the police have ordered and restricted vehicles from entering the Prempeh Assembly Hall.
They have also set more barricades along the street to the election center and have also blocked traffic on that street. However, despite the initial chaos, peace and calm have been restored, and delegates have gone back to voting.
The re-run of the current Council of State elections in the Ashanti Region, is as a result of the chaos that erupted during the first electoral process which was held last week.
Reports reveal that a group of thugs had attacked the Electoral Commission (EC) officials who were present and also destroyed some of the electoral items including ballot boxes, hence, disrupting the entire election process.
Since the election was halted due to the chaos, it was rescheduled to be re-run, to ensure a fair and transparent election.
