After being denied bail on three attempts, Fix-the-country convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has finally been granted bail but, at a cost significantly higher than that of others who were also ealier arrested.
Several people were arrested during a protest against illegal mining activities in the country. According to a police report, the said people were arrested due to unlawful behaviours during the protest. Some who were denied bail earlier we later released after fullfiling bail conditions following a nationwide criticism of the police.
A lawer and a constant critique of the government, Oliver was among those arrested. He has been in remand longer than those together with whom he was arrested. The political activist also had pending court case against him before the protest.
The police did not give details of the reason Oliver was arrested, athough it had been confirmed that Oliver took out a key from a police van while the protest was ongoing. However, he later clarified that he had done so to safeguard protestors.
