After years of legal battle, an Accra High Court has dismissed a corruption case against former Ghana Football Authority (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
The case which has dragged on for five years has been dismissed following the prosecution’s failure to present a witness.
A few weeks ago, the Court of Appeal ruled that Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who produced the documentary revealing the former GFA boss’ alleged involvement in corrupt practices, must testify without his customary mask on. This became a necessary approach, as Anas has become a critical witness in the case.
However, the journalist protested the order, explaining that his safety would be in jeopardy should he reveal his face.
With not evidence to back the allegations and Anas’ non-appearance in court as the final witness, the case has been discontinued. An Accra High Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Marie-Louise Simmonds delivered the verdict.
According to reports, the prosection’s failure to present Anas in court for trial to begin calls for a discontinuation of the case.
