All Public Sector workers without Ghana Card will have their salaries withheld starting February 2024, the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) have warned.
This new directive was reached following discussions with the National Identification Authority (NIA) regarding the securing of Ghana card for persons who are yet to secure theirs.
According to the CAGD, the decision also forms part of the outfit’s effort to rid the public sector off the issue of ghost names on government’s payroll.
Both CAGD and the NIA reportedly staged a dialogue on the acquisition of new Ghana cards. This is said to have taken place on October 11, 2023. But the NIA has also lamented its inability to carry out new registration exercises.
Instead, it has advised people to visit its 292 offices nationwide to register for the card.
CAGD has therefore advised its staff and members to undertake the necessary steps to secure the card, as their salaries are at stake.
