The National Labour Commission has secured a court order to discontinue an industrial action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).
The agrieved association announced an industrial action following its concern on government’s delay in implementing a new salary structure for its workers. The new structure is to take effect from January 1, 2025 but CLOGSAG has been worried about a seeming unwillingness on the part of government to ensure its implementation.
Following a first notice served on October 23, 2024 detailing their concerns, the association finally announced its resolve to embark on an industrial action. According to CLOGSAG, government has yet to make a tangible offer in regard to the salary structure.
However, the Fair Wages and Salary Commission explained that CLOGSAG itself has not responded to an offer made by the government.
The NLC, in court, requested an temporal injunction order to halt the strike. In its verdict, the court granted a ten-days injunction order, calling on the various bodies to adhere to the directive.
“It is hereby ordered that the Respondent, their Executives Officers, Members, Agents, Servants, Employees and other persons are restrained from further continuation of their strike action from 7th November, 2024.”
“The application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice,” said the court order.
