The National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has released former Deputy Executive Director, Kwaku Ohene Djan of the National Service Authority (NSA) following days of detention regarding a scandal allegation.
The NSA has been making the news since late 2024 following a disclosure that the government institution is fraught with thousands of ghost names who illegally receive monthly payments. In total, the amount paid said ghost names runs in millions a month.
Kwaku Djan was invited by the NIB to answer some questions regarding the scandal.
Over eighty thousand ghost names are said to have been registered on the NSA system. Preliminary investigations reveal that persons from even other countries have been registered on the system. Others include aged persons, who ordinarily would not be enrolled as national service personnel.
The revelation has sparked public outrage towards the authority under the NPP administration, with many calling for thorough investigation and prosecution of the culprits.
Kwaku’s detention, which spanned several days was part of the NIB’s efforts to uncover potential evidence of irregularities that resulted into the scandal at the authority.
According to reports, Kwaku’s appearance at the NIB has revealed information through which high profile individuals have been implicated. Also, former Deputy Executive Director, Gifty Oware-Mensah is said to be on the run following the NIB’s commencement of a probe into the scandal.
However, although he has been released, Kwaku Ohene Djan remains a person of interest and could be invited again by the NIB to aid in the ongoing investigation, according to the NIB.
