The National Identification Agency has issued a public notice, serving as a reminder to Ghanaians that the first issuance of the Ghana Card at its 276 Operational District Offices across the country is free.
This is to ensure that all Ghanaians have equal access to the national identification system, irrespective of their financial statuses.
In the notice, the Agency, however, mentioned that for their Premium offices, first-time issuance of the card comes at a fee of GHS 310. The fees and charges for the various card issuances were approved by Parliament in 2023.
The cost of card replacement at the District Offices comes at GHS 125 and at the Premium Centers for GHS 420. Record updates of the Ghana Card at the District Offices comes at no cost but comes at a cost of GHS 310 at the Premium Centers.
For other card related issues such as record update and replacement of cards, an amount of GHS 60 will be charged at the District Offices but at GHS 355 at the Premium Centres.
For a Nationality update, the applicant would have to pay an amount of GHS 70 at the District Offices and GHS 365 at the Premium Centres.
The Authority further urged Ghanaians to take note of the charges and make use of the free issuance of the Ghana Cards at the District Offices. They also encouraged the general public to report any official of NIA who charges a fee outside the ones that have been officially mentioned.
The Ghana Card serves as an important national identification document, which allows Ghanaians to access financial services and transactions, hospital services and other essential governmental services.
