The Aowin Traditional Council has performed rituals to banish the Member of Parliament for their Constituency, Honorable Oscar Ofori Larbi, from setting his foot on any of the Aowin lands.
The Council made this decision after it accused the MP of allegedly spreading false stories against the paramount chief and some of the divisional chiefs in the Aowin Traditional Area – an act which the council deemed disrespectful.
Led by the Chief of Omanpe, Nana Opong Panyin III, the traditional council slaughtered a sheep and poured libation, invoking the gods of the Aowin Traditional Area to deal with the MP should he disobey the ban they have set.
Although the Council had acknowledged Honourable Larbi’s election, it emphasized strongly that his continuous acts of disrespect towards the paramount chief, divisional chiefs and the council in general, compelled them to banish him from their land.
The Council also made it known of the MP’s alleged involvement in the illegal mining activities which are ongoing in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve.
The MP has however, denied such allegations, stating that his only involvement was taking steps to combat the situation in the area.
Moreover, the council made it clear that they do not have any grudges with the party or the government, and since the MP has been banished, any development projects which the government seeks to implement in their area, should be channeled through the Regional Minister or the Municipal Chief Executive, who is yet to be appointed.
The Tufuhene of Enchi, Nana Panyin II, also accused the MP of abusing his political power to undermine the authority of the traditional council and the chiefs.
According to him, “It is beyond Nananom’s comprehension that the Honourable MP, who was first elected on the ticket of the NDC through his party’s electoral processes, has repeatedly ignored three formal invitations extended by Nananom.”
He revealed, “Furthermore, he has orchestrated nationwide radio interviews to openly express gross insubordination toward the Aowin Omanhene and the chiefs of the Aowin Traditional Area. This disregard for tradition is compounded by his funding of a malicious documentary intended to humiliate our revered chiefs.”
He also stated the reason for the ban by mentioning, “Nananom hold the view that if the Honourable MP has persistently exploited political, traditional, and cultural platforms to vilify the Aowin Omanhene with malice, then Nananom have been left with no choice but to sever all ties with him and banish him from the Aowin Traditional Area, indefinitely.”
Meanwhile, Honourable Larbi has mentioned that he is working towards resolving the issue with the traditional council, to lift the ban on him.
