A man called Alex is said to have sustained injuries after he was hit by two stray bullets from Customs officers who were aiming at an uncustomed vehicle on the run.
Alex, an engineer at the South Tongu District Assembly was reportedly waiting at the bus-stop to board the bus to Accra when he was hit, according to accounts by an eyewitness who spoke with Citi News.
The custom officers were reportedly chasing a Mercedes-Benz with the registration number GC 3361-14 in Sogakope in the Volta region and eventually fired shots, which striked the car’s rear windshield.
According to the eyewitness, the individuals in the pursued car have been arrested, whereas Alex has been rushed to the Comboni Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
“A pickup was chasing a car and stop in front of us and few seconds later, we heard gunshots. Before we could realize a man who was by the roadside waiting to board a vehicle to Accra was hit by the bullets.
“We identified those who shot as the customs officials. They have however arrested the uncustomed vehicle they were chasing. But the victim has been rushed to the hospital,” said the eyewitness.
Meanwhile, it is reported that authorities have yet to comment on the incident.
