President Mahama has issued a formal directive to the Lands Commission to cease, with immediate effect, ongoing procedures regarding the sale of State and public lands.
This was captured in a green paper dated January 10, 2025 and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
According to the statement the directive comes as an effort to safeguard State and Public lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations.
“I am directed to formally communicate a directive for the immediate cessation of all activities relating to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving State and Public Lands,” said the statement.
In effect, all ongoing and pending transactions are to be halted without delay in view of a comprehensive review.
“As such, all ongoing and pending transactions must be halted without delay to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of such lands.”
Moreover, the directive demands the Lands Commission to submit a “detailed report of all recent and ongoing transactions concerning State and Public Lands to this office within fourteen days of this communication.”
The directive comes just few hours after allegations about the sale of government lands was cited on the social media platform, X.
A post by the leader of team ORAL (Operation Recover All Loot) Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated that some government workers occupying some four government bungalows behind the State House reported a purported demolition plan of the buildings by a certain private developer.
According to him, the residents reported that some thugs arrived at the premise to demand their vacation of the residence, claiming payment for the land had been concluded last year. But team ORAL’s intervention will see the demolition plan thwarted and said private developer should request a refund from whoever he bought the land, says Ablakwa.
