The Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central constituency of the Upper East Region, Mahama Ayariga has been projected as the replacement for Dr. Cassiel Ato-Forson as the Majority Leader in Parliament.
This follows the nomination of Dr. Ato-Forson, who has until his nomination been the leader of the caucus, for Finance Minister position by President John Dramani Mahama.
Although there have been no official notice on this development, posts by prominent individuals close to and within the government could be seen welcoming the idea.
In a X post, the Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari shared; “A fantastic choice for the NDC and for Government. Hon Mahama Ayariga is Sharp and has strong analytical and solid oratory skills and he will undoubtedly be a great Majority Leader. Congratulations my Brother, Godspeed.”
Mahama Ayariga is an experienced lawyer and a long-standing member of parliament for his consituency, having been elected about six times.
He has had his education in Ghana, Nigeria and the United States. He holds a Master of Law (LLM) degree from the Harvard Law School in the United States of America and a Bachelor of Law (LLB) Degree from University of Ghana, Legon.
Mr. Ayariga is a former minister of state, former deputy minister of trade and industry, and a former minister of education.
