Following the tragic death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a final year Biological Sciences student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Ashanti Regional Police command has detained a 21-year-old final year male student, who was supposedly in a relationship with the deceased.
Joana’s lifeless body was found around 5:00 am near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
The suspect, Daniel Tuffour, the suspected boyfriend of the deceased has been detained by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for questioning, in relation to the tragic death of Ms. Yabani.
A press-release statement by the KNUST management has mentioned that the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, in a meeting with the University’s management, revealed that Tuffour was seen on the campus surveillance cameras, leading to his apprehension by the police.
According to DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the suspect is currently aiding the police in the investigation of the death of Ms. Yabani.
“We have identified the suspect through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting with our investigations,” he stated.
He further assured the school and students of a 24-hour survellience operations on the campus, to ensure the seurity and safety of the students.
Assuring parents and students of the police’s determination to keep the campus safe, he said, “We are stepping up our efforts to maintain security on campus. Our officers will be conducting round-the-clock patrols and monitoring activities.”
The Ashanti Regional Police Command also assured justice to the family of the late Ms. Yabani, expressing to parents and students of their commitment to keeping the campus safe.
