A 23-year-old fisherman known as John Armah, aka Asaa, has been charged with defilement after pleading guilty. He was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to 8 years in prison. The Gender Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters, sentenced him for defiling a four-year-old girl.
According to the Prosecution, which was led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, the complainant, an uncle to the victim, is a boxer who resides at Lantemaamli-Chorkor. The accused person is also reported to be a resident of Chorkor.
Per the complainant’s account, on November 29, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., Armah, the accused, saw the victim playing around his area and called her. He allegedly gave her GHC1 coin to buy biscuit, and the victim bought and ate the biscuit.
The prosecution mentioned that after the girl had eaten the biscuit, Armah took her by her hand and led her into his room which is along the seashore. He placed her on the mattress and had sexual intercourse with her. After he had done the act, the accused travelled to Apam and the victim went back home.
According to the prosecution, upon reaching home, the victim’s mother noticed changes in her daughter’s walk and confronted her. The victim then recounted what Armah had done to her. The mother called the victim’s uncle, the complainant on phone, and told him about what had happened to the victim.
The prosecution mentioned that a report was made to the Police at Mamprobi, and a medical form was issued to the complainant to take the victim to seek medical care.
The accused, Armah, was later arrested after the report had been made. Based on investigations carried, the accused was charged with defilement and he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was thus sentenced to 8 years imprisonment on his own plea.
