Another raging fire incident has been reported following a recent devastating one this month at Kantamanto, Accra.
According to reports and images seen, the Techiman Central Market has been swept by fire, leading to the destruction of hundreds of shops. The situation has left many shop owners devasted, as they are reported to have lost millions-worth of goods.
Frustrations have been directed at firefighters for their lack of adequate recquired equipment to combat the fire.
“I don’t know why a whole metropolitan area like Techiman has just one fire tender. If we had two or three, this fire could have been controlled in the early stages,” a trader reported.
Accounts on the incident reveal that the fire outbreak begun at 9:15 pm on Sunday January 12, 2025 and became difficult to put out due to the inadequacy of the firefighters.
Shop owners have decried their loss of investments, especially loans they had taken from banks.
Meanwhile, the source of the fire outbreak remains unknown, as the police has just commenced an investigation.
According to he Bono East Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Naomi Ofori Adubea Sarpong, difficulty to put out the fire was due to the congested nature of the market.
There have been number of fire outbreaks in large markets in Ghana this month alone, leaving countless individuals devasted. Fortunately, no death records have been reported so far.
There have been rumours that the fire outbreaks are intentional actions by some people who want to takeover the lands. However, there been no official notice of why it is becoming a trend.
