Baltasar Ebang, an Equatoguinean official, whose name has made wave on various social media platforms following a leakage of his sextapes has been fired from his post.
”According to Real Equatorial Guinea, the dismissal of Mr. Engonga, the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo (current president of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa, CEMAC), was formalized in Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4.
The decree cited Mr. Engonga’s alleged misconduct in office and his family-related and social behavior as incompatible with public office,” a statement spotted said.
Mr. Ebang had been serving as the Director-General of National Financial and Investigation Agency (ANIF).
The sextapes involved himself and individual women numbeinrg up to three hundred, of whom a great number seems to be wives of people in authority.
The incidents has since drawn massive attention to the country, with many authorities also enraged.
Mrs. Obiang, the First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, responded to the issue on Wednesday by urging the government to act immediately to safeguard Equatoguinean women’s dignity in the digital era.
“It is essential to create a safe and respectful environment for all women,” she said in a Facebook post.
It has also been reported that the government has demanded an intallation of cameras in offices of govenrment officials in order to prevent such occurrences.
Meanwhile, multimedia file sharing over mobile data on apps like WhatsApp has been restricted by the government. Ahora EG, a local news outlet, stated that residents were annoyed by the new restrictions as they had to use Wi-Fi connections in order to share media.
