A Development and Education Consultant, Dr Samuel Awuku says it is about time that Ghana’s education sector was rid off political interference. Dr. Awuku is calling for all parties to support President Mahama’s National Education Forum, which has been constituted to deliberate on issues heckling the sector.
The Education Consultant says political ideologies are destroying the sector.
“I would beg Ghanaians that there’s a point in our history that we can all say that this is the right time for us to do things like this, and forget about any political ideology which is for destroying us,” he said on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday 25, 2025.
“In a paper I wrote some time ago, I talked about political identity and political beliefs, and how Ghana will be so politicised such that if you make a point it is linked to a political party.”
“We all have to bear that in mind, that there’s a point in time that we all have to roll up our sleeves and say Ghana first,” he added.
Dr. Awuku recounted that he had been antagonised sometime ago during his appearance on a forum to support a reform of the pre-tertiary curriculum under the previous administration in 2017. According to him, some members accused him of being affiliated to the opposition party. According to him, the then Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh dispelled the allegation on his behalf.
“He asked them, in the schools, the children there do they wear any political jersey or identity? These are children of Ghana, who need to be developed to have the best chances in life and contribute to national development,” he said.
Speaking on the National Education Forum, Dr. Awuku lauded the initiative, saying he saw it as a difference making opportunity when he was called upon to be a member.
Furthermore, he dispelled the notion that he was politically affiliated. “People who know me very well, and I know others in the committee, you realise that everybody is committed to making this happen. There is no political affiliation, no political agenda. It is about Ghana.”
He stressed that Ghana’s education sector will flourish when leaders eventually decide to leave politics out of it.
“The day that we all realise that when it comes to education, there’s nothing like politics, that’s when Ghana will truly move forward.”
