Development Economist, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, pending consultations with the Council of State.
This was contained in a letter from the Presidency Communications signed by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President, and released on 3 February 2025.
Dr. Thompson previously served as the Director-General of the Commission, overseeing the preparation of the country’s 40-Year Development Plan. He had led Ghana’s technical delegations to UN to develop SDGs from 2014 to 2015.
The Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission is expected to collaborate more closely with the Minister of Finance, the Govenor of the Bank of Ghana, the Government Statistician and other presidential appointees and representatives from the sixteen regions of Ghana, to provide strategic advice to the President and Parliament for Ghana’s development.
Through the same letter, another individual appointed is Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC). Mr. Twum Boafo is a Civil Engineer, a Finance expert, and former Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority between 2009 and 2017.
These and many more appointments including ministerial appointments have been made since the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama on 7 January 2025, in accordance with the constitutional provision of making appointments.
