The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has listed the names of 97 entities and is warning the public against engaging in any form of transaction with them.
The platforms are said to be providing loans through mobile applications to the public.
According to the BoG, the listed names have violated laws governing customer data and privacy, including consumer protection requirements and norms, with unfavorable implications for the integrity and safety of their patrons.
“Banks, Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions, and Payment Service Providers are cautioned not to facilitate the illegal transactions of unlicensed loan applications. The general public is encouraged to patronize the various types of digital credit products approved by the Bank of Ghana and delivered by banks and specialized deposit-taking institutions in partnership with mobile money operators,” a BoG said in a statement.
However, the BoG says it has cautioned the operators of the said bodies to halt such acts else they would be investigated and prosecuted.
