On Saturday, October 12, 2024, there was a heart-wrenching accident which claimed the lives of two 12-year old girls at East Legon. The culprit, a minor and son of a Bishop called Salifu Amoako, was driving at an excessive speed collided with another car which caused the unfortunate death of the two young girls.
The collision set both cars ablaze, but the teenager and his friend were able to escape whereas the two girls got burnt in the car.
According to reports, during a family birthday party, the teenager had picked up his mother’s car keys without her knowledge. He mentioned that he had picked up his friend to go on a ride which led to the accident. Following the accident, there were a number of conversations and concerns raised regarding parental negligence, with many expressing outrage and calls for justice.
The teenager faced eight charges, including two counts of manslaughter, dangerous driving and driving without license or insurance. He pleaded guilty to all charges. The High Court thus sentenced him to six months in the Senior Correctional Center.
