Amid the resurgence of the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, a five-month-old baby is reported to have lost her life after attackers forcibly took her from her mother and smashed her against the ground.
According to reports, the baby’s mother, who was a trader, was tracked by the assailants on her way to trade. She was violently beaten while her baby was snatched from her.
The resurgence of the decades-long conflict was reported in October 2024, as assailants reportedly mounted a road-block on a high-way in search of their target. Since then, quite a significant number of individuals have lost their lives.
As authorities have failed to provide a lasting solution to the conflict, residents in Bawku and its adjoining towns in the Northern region live in perpetual fear.
After his swearing-in as the new president, President John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to the region, promising to restore calm to the area.
With reported terrorist attacks near the northern borders of Ghana, residents and security experts are hoping that the governmment would expedite measures in providing solutions to the Bawku conflict in order to contain activities of terrorism head on.
