The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has revealed that the former president, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo has urged all his ex-appointees, to avail themselves for the accountability processes under the NDC administration.
He was speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, February 18, 2025
Stressing on the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Mr. Ahiagbah stated emphatically, “We (the NPP), have no record of running away; we’ll be here.”
He made this comment to address the various comments, conversations and arguments which arose as a result of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) declaring former Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, a fugitive, following his inability to avail himself for the accountability process.
Mr. Ahiagbah stated strongly that the NPP will not escape accountability.
“We’ll deal with the issues here. It was the NDC members who ran away. My own sister, Sedinam Tamakloe, disappeared. She was tried in absentia, but she ought to be here. Our party has no history of our officials fleeing from accountability,” he said .
He however assured that the NPP was rather focused on preparing for the 2028 general elections.
He said, “Our preoccupation is how we get our party is how we get our party situated and contest the 2028 election. Matters to do with accountability – our people will be here to answer the questions.”
The Director of Communications for the NPP also revealed that the former president has issued a directive to all his appointees. “There’s an effective commitment right from the former president himself. He has given a directive to ensure our people are available to do that. I just don’t want to go into details of what he said, but there is that disposition from the former president – an indication to stay and make sure you account for your [stewardship].”
The declaration by the OSP of former Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive of the Republic of Ghana, sparked many criticisms, conversations and arguments among citizens, lawyers and activists. Earlier this week, the OSP removed the declaration on the former minister, for reason that he had written to avail himself to go through the accountability process.
