An alleged group of NDC affiliate youth have gathered at the premise of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to deny the outfit’s newly appointed Acting Commission-General, Anthony Sarpong entry into the building.
Anthony’s appointment has been met with disdain and mixed-feeling, as grassroots of the National Democratic Congress lamented his supposed affiliation to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Since his appointment, party loyalists on various social media platforms, especially on X and Facebook have called upon the president to rescind the decision.
The president is being inundated with calls to rescind the decision despite Anthony’s remarkable background, making him competent for the position, and also the fact that the decision plays into President Mahama’s course to steer off partisan appointments where necessary.
There are a number of appointments some party faithfuls have protested on grounds of party allegiance of the individuals in question. Following the previous NPP government’s prolific partisan appointments, some NDC loyalists expected the Mahama administration to do same.
But experts opined that for the sake of the country’s economical growth, appointments should be based on competence rather than partisan.
