Political Activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been summoned by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, over his allegation that the members of the committee have been asking the minister-designates for money before they appear before the committee, in exchange for the committee’s approval.
On Tuesday, 28 January, the committee chairperson, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, strongly refuted such claims, stating that neither he nor the committee members are engaged in the alleged misconduct.
He proceeded to call on the activist for evidence to support his claim against the committee, in a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 29 January, 2025.
He stated, “So, I am therefore directing the Clerk to the Committee, to invite him to appear before the committee tomorrow, to substantiate his claims, or we will apply the necessary law.”
Some members of the minority have however suggested that the vetting processes be halted to address the bribery allegation at hand before its continuation.
Meanwhile, in post on X, he has indicated that he will be appearing before the committee tomorrow January 29, 2025, saying “this is how a Democracy improves.”
Oliver has faced a number of legal battles in recent pasts for some of his claims in the political sphere.
On February 2022, Mr. Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was arrested and put on trial for treason felony, after he allegedly threatened on social media, to stage a coup against the Akuffo-Addo’s administration.
He had also sought for a claim against the Ghana Police Service for the violation of his human rights while in custody.
