On Thursday, May 25, a man named Jibrin Sawuta took a middle-aged woman named Hassana Yohanna to an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, because he said she called him useless.
Yohanna was given a fine because she insulted, lied about, and tried to scare people.
The crime goes against Kaduna State Penal Code Law sections 313, 371, and 376.
Sawuta told the court in a direct criminal charge that he was talking with friends in the palace of the village head of Fadan Kagoma when he heard that the police had taken his brother into custody.
When he got to the station, he said, the defendant came out of nowhere and started insulting him. He said he was unable to have children and that he was a loser.
He said that after the suspect insulted him, he came at him for no reason.
When the suspect heard the charge, she said she wasn’t guilty.
She then asked the court to let her out on bail, but the suspect said no.
In his decision, the judge in charge, George Gwani, set bail for the defendant at N30,000 and one surety who must be a district head within the court’s authority.
Gwani put the case off until June 19 so that the accuser could bring witnesses to show that he was right.
