Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who is the Speaker of Parliament, has said that he wants to set up a five-person group to look into a petition from unhappy customers of Menzgold.
A press statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament says that the Speaker made this announcement during a meeting with unhappy customers.
The petition, which has gone through all the steps needed to become a House motion, will be looked at before Parliament goes on break.
The Speaker said that a committee will be made to look into the worries of the affected customers. When the House meets again after the recess, the committee’s report will be discussed.
Mr. Fred Forson, who is in charge of the group of unhappy customers, talked about the problems that the group’s members have been having and how it has caused 210 deaths. He told the Speaker that the most important thing was to move quickly on the motion.
The move was brought to the Speaker by Mr. Rockson-Nelson Kwame Etse Dafeamekpor, who is a member of parliament for South Dayi and belongs to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He agreed that the current court case was complicated because of the law, but he stressed that the court was only looking at the illegal part. He asked the Speaker to accept the move for the House to look at the report from the committee.
The customers who were upset thanked the Speaker and said they hoped that their problems would be fixed quickly and well.
