Police officers who were not advanced by the Ghana Police Service have filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), saying that they acted arbitrarily and unfairly.
The police officers say that because of the service’s policy of “study leaves with pay,” they should have been promoted after getting their degrees, but that hasn’t happened yet, even though it’s been a few months.
“All of the plaintiffs filed for the 2017/2018 Academic Year Study Leave with Pay program for two- to four-year college courses.
If a plaintiff met the qualifications, he or she was chosen and made to sign a bond promising to work for the police for at least five years after finishing their studies. If the bond was broken, the plaintiff could be sued.
