The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will release provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on December 29, after which the final publication will be released before the end of January 2025.
This announcement comes on the back of mounting pressures from parents and students regarding a delay in the release of this year’s results.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, December 24, he explained that the Council has already completed 50% marking of the objectives section of the examinations, as he emphasized a timely release of the results.
He expressed that the measures put in place by the government of Ghana will help maintain the integrity of the examination process. This is in response to the Ministry of Education’s recent part-payment ( 25 million Ghana cedis) to WAEC to facilitate the release of the results.
The government has been in debt of 118 million Ghana cedis to the Council. The Minister however refused to comment on the debt issue.
However, he said, “I came to appraise myself of the developments in terms of the fact that they are working now through the holidays, to get the results out on or before 29th of this month. So I came and saw the workers working, and currently close to 50% of the objectives have been marked.”
He therefore encouraged students and parents to exercise patience in awaiting the results, adding that they should be on the look out for the release of the provisional examination results on December 29, 2024, with the final publication to be made in January 2025.
