The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson says he will present a bill before parliament on Wednesday, March 13, to scrap tax policies on electronic transaction and betting.
During his 2025 budget presentation on March 11, the finance minister stressed that the E-levy, betting tax and Covid tax, otherwise referred to as nuisance taxes will be abolished.
Parliament has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 13, 2025 at 10am. The minister says he will lay the bill before the House on this particular day.
“Tomorrow morning, I will be going to Parliament to submit the bills, and I expect Parliament to take them through a certificate of urgency,” Dr. Forson stated on JoyNews PM Express on Tuesday, March 11.
“Repealing the taxes will be one clause each. Repealing the betting tax is very easy, the e-levy and all of those things we are repealing are quite easy,” he added.
Dr. Ato Forson is optimistic that the president will swiftly assent to the bill once it gets parliamentary approval. Moreover, the majority in parliament are ready to give a 100% support to ensure the bill is passed, said the minister.
“I assure you that I will do my bid tomorrow and submit it to Parliament, and looking at the urgency involved, I’m hopeful that Parliament will take it through the various stages and approve it for us.”
