The United Kingdom (UK) branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed election campaign funds misappropriation allegations levelled againts the branch.
Following their loss in the 2024 general elction, the NPP executives sanctioned an enquiry into the usage of its campaign funds. This followed a leaked short footage of the NPP UK branch’s meeting which raised suspicions about fund embezzlement.
However, according to the NPP UK Deputy Secretary, Felix Hamilton, the leaked footage was an insigificant portion of a five-hour meeting brought into the public domain to cause confusion and disaffection for the branch.
The statement clarified that the branch chairman has been able to account for the funds entrusted him for the election.
“The chairman further indicated that no funds were diverted or misappropriated….. “A detailed budget breakdown confirmed that every expenditure aligned with the objectives of the campaign,” it said
Explaining how the fund was used, the released indicated that most of the money was used on radio and television airtime to spread messages about the significance of Ghana’s credit scoring program, Ghana card or financial inclusion, and the economic problems posed by COVID-19.
Moreover, the release added that the money secured for the communication plan was completely different from the monies that the NPP UK branch had set aside for the chosen constituency.
In conclusion, the NPP UK branch has advised that the party avoid distractions and focused on the tasks ahead.
“We urge all party members and stakeholders to focus on the collective goal of supporting the NPP’s success in uniting and building the party together for future success.”
