The Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Nana Attobrah Quaicoe is threatening to resort to legal action should Martin Kpebu, a legal practitioner and member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team not retract his comments about the former’s alleged illegal acquisition of State-owned lands.
During his appearance on TV3’s Keypoints program, Mr. Kpebu speculated that the NIB boss had expressed his readiness to denounce ownership of State lands he had allegedly purchased illegally, a development following team ORAL’s quest to clamp down on persons who had been involved in the misuse and misappropriation of government assets during the previous administration.
However, a statement released by lawyers of Mr. Nana Attobrah Quaicoe has denied the accusation, describing it as “contrived, false, and without any basis.”
“We act for Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau. Our client’s attention has been drawn to widespread publications attributed to Mr. Martin Kpebu, a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, alleging that our client, following engagements with the ORAL committee, has agreed to surrender a parcel of land belonging to the State, and that in consideration, the ORAL committee will not pursue further action against our client,”
The statement stressed that the NIB boss does not possess any illegally acquired property, deeming the allegations defamatory. Moreover, their client, Mr. Quaicoe has never contacted team ORAL in relation to the purported government land sales.
It therefore urged the public to disregard the “false claims” which are “calculated to injure our client’s reputation.”
Accordingly, Mr. Kpebu should retract his “utterly false and defamatory statements,” or be prepared to face legal action, said the statement.
