An official statement from the Presidency, released on Thursday, March 14, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President, mentions that Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been appointed as the Inspector-General (IGP) of the Ghana Police Service.
His appointment replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who served as the IGP of Police under the Akuffo-Addo-led administration.
COP Yohuno brings 40 years of experience to the position of IGP, and he is expected to oversee the modernization and transformation of the Ghana Police Service. His appointment by President John Dramani Mahama, is in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, and in consultation with the Council of State.
He is set to be sworn into office on Friday, March, 14, 2025.
Meanwhile, there is an ongoing legal challenge by IMANI Ghana and security analyst Prof. Kwesi Aning, seeking to prevent the President from dismissing the IGP and other security heads until an ongoing court matter is resolved in May 2025.
