A close friend of deceased investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, has been arrested in connection with his tragic death.
The suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, reportedly a former employee of the Tiger Eye PI was arrested upon his secrete return to Ghana after he fled the country during preliminary investigations into the death of the journalist in 2019.
Also known as Akwasi Amakye, the suspect is being charged with releasing photographs of Ahmed Suale to an undisclosed prominent politician, shortly preceeding his death.
His arrest is said to have followed the acquisition of compelling information by the FBI in the USA. The information include phone calls between the suspect and the deceased, few days before his death.
Ahmed was murdered close to his home at Madina on January 16, 2019. This happened not long after his collaboration with the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) in an investigative piece revealing corruption in African football.
Daniel Owusu reportedly used to visit the Ahmed Suale at his Madina residence before his death. According to reports, he was arrested at Amasaman-Adease.
Since his death in 2019, there have been no information on the murderer. This has led to various controversies in the media, with names of certain politicians emerging without any evidence.
The NPP government, under which Ahmed’s death occurred was pressured on several occasions to embark on a rigorous investigation to ascertain the identity of the murderer, but little to no effort was seen.
Despite years since his death, concerned citizens continue to call for justice.
